Newspaper editor John O'Sullivan coined the term “manifest destiny.” He coined the term in 1845 to describe the essence of the mid west. John O’Sullivan, the editor of a magazine, served as an organ of the Democratic Party. Also served part of a partisan newspaper, first wrote of “manifest destiny” in 1845.
At the time he didn’t think that the words would be very good. O’Sullivan protested European meddling in American affairs. O’Sullivan’s observation was a complaint rather than a call for violent behavior. O’Sullivan’s role in creating the term had been forgotten.
He died unknown for 50 years after first using the term “manifest destiny.” O’Sullivan, as the phrase originator, a conclusion became universally accepted. O’Sullivan had stumbled through a broad held national sentiment emotion. He was born on November 15, 1813.
