The Manifest Destiny was important to our Country’s history, because it spread democracy and capitalism across North America. It helped to create a place of freedom and liberty. It gave chances for others to have a new life. Some would say it did the opposite for others, like the Indians. We had to take their land to make it our own.
Some groups of people had to leave the Eastern States. It wasn’t because they wanted land for themselves. It was to escape being mistreated. One example of this was the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Their movement out West was during this time of the Manifest Destiny. Many died during their walk across the country. In this example, their migration was for religious freedom. We now have a State called Utah because of them. They also settled in places like Idaho, Nevada, and California. The diagrams below show what it may have been like for them.
The Manifest Destiny was important for the growth of the United States. We can enjoy the freedoms in a beautiful country. People should know about it because if it didn’t happen, then we would have a smaller United States of America, a smaller government, and a smaller territory to live in. We wouldn’t be what we are today without this great movement.
